I. Multidisciplinary Model of Student Eportfolio
Based on the guidelines, checklist and teaching experience, members collaborated to identify a multidisciplinary model of student Eportfolio which included framework, components, artefacts, assessment rubric and the integration of HKBU Graduate Attributes. Members went through a process of assimilation of various models to propose a general model for developing student Eportfolio for various disciplines. This student Eportfolio would ultimately facilitate professional development, enhance teaching efficiency and motivate the teaching dynamics of colleagues in the university.
II. Various platforms for student Eportfolio
Various available platforms for student Eportfolio were tested and piloted. Members carried out trials on and evaluated platforms such as Blackboard, Mahara, Weebly, Google Doc etc. Furthermore, members got feedback on platforms from students after using them to establish their student Eportfolio.
III. Piloted student Eportfolios in various disciplines and survey conducted
Six members have piloted student Eportfolios (German Studies, French Studies, Mathematics, Education Studies, Business Communication and History) in specific courses in the first semester and centralized survey has been conducted by asking students to fill out a questionnaire.
IV. Online platform for sharing and disseminating information
We have created a sharing and exchange platform on Facebook (Closed Group: REFLECT: A Community of Practice on Student E-Portfolios), Dropbox (For sharing files, documents and useful materials) and Web page on Weebly (http://copreflect.weebly.com/). This has strengthened the scholarly and information exchange, enhanced the teacher-teacher collaboration and attracted more colleagues to know more about student Eportfolio.
V. Teaching and Learning Experience Sharing (TALES seminar)
We have offered a TALES seminar to the university community to share the implementation of student Eportfolio in teaching courses. The TALES Sesminar was held on 17 October 2014, during the eLearning Week of CHTL. The title of the seminar was “Using e-Portfolios to Enhance Student Learning” and the facilitators were the principal coordinator Dr Tushar Chaudhuri, members Dr Simon To and Dr Ronnie Shroff. The respondents generally very satisfied with the output of the seminar, which certainly has disseminated the potential of incorporating student Eportfolio as learning and assessment tool and inspired colleagues to consider certain assessment and evaluation methods in their teaching.
VI. Dissemination and Presentation in International Conference
Two presentation proposals were accepted to the Lilly Conference in Bethesda (28-31 May, 2015). The presentation topics were “Networked Learning Communities”: Interdisciplinary Community of Practice on student e-portfolio” by Dr Tushar Chaudhuri and Miss Winnie Chan, and “Driving Interaction and Ubiquitous Learning with Mobile Devices” by Dr Warren Linger respectively. Together the papers would showcase the experiences in managing CoP and implementing student Eportfolio in an international conference.
VII. Scholarly peer-reviewed publication
We will coordinate the publication of a scholarly peer-reviewed book. The building-block of the book would be on the practical application and implication of student Eportfolio and the multidisciplinary perspectives on implementing student Eportfolio in the context of CoP and Hong Kong respectively. The content of the book would be creative and up-to-the-minute elements in Asian region. The expected completion date would be in March 2016.
VIII. Synergies with other CoPS within the university community
The Principal Coordinator Dr Tushar Chaudhuri and member Dr Catherine Ladds have joined another CoP named “Development of Teaching Portfolio Framework through a Multidisciplinary Community of Practice”, in order to integrate the utilization of student Eportfolio and teacher Eportfolio. As the Principal Coordinator of the mentioned CoP, Prof Atara Sivan, is one of our members, this synergy has brought advantageous exchanges and dynamics to both CoPs via participation, familiarity with the practical knowledge and developing professionalism.
